wonder how it'd ever be possible to feel a sense of belonging while being horribly isolated from the rest of the class?

i was a solitary figure in today's singapore english theatre tutorial. simply because dearest Murphy appointed me as the "leader" of the pack with such gusto it was near impossible for anyone to protest.

the problem was rafizah and i were sorta the only year ones around, and i (the greenhorn) was expected to shamelessly display limited wisdom in front of the year 3 theatre majors i.e. malu myself.

what was worse, i turned up ten minutes late for said tutorial, only to find an empty chair placed right at the front facing the entire class, smugly waiting for my butt to fill it.

so after mumbling my apologies, a sweaty and bothered me proceeded to slump on the hot seat and stare helplessly back at the amused faces before me. (i swear dear o' Murphy The Mastermind was gleefully sniggering in the background.)

to my relief, these seniors turned out to be such compassionate, decent human beings. one gave me the thumbs-up sign while many flashed encouraging smiles and kind looks.

we conspired.

i began after several nervous gulps and tacit prompting from my very helpful classmates.

me: "erhh, do you guys think this play has succeeded as a post-..."

cool guy (mar's crush!) in front of me (mouthing): "co-lo-nial"

me (with a secret nod of acknowledgment in his direction): "right. post-colonial play."

that got the ball rolling aright, and people started throwing in ideas to guide me along. very soon i was able to get the hang of things and coherently present my thoughts with ease, all thanks to a co-operative, and very creative class :)

we got sucha kick outta criticising and scandalising the plays so much so that Murphy, being naturally delighted at the end of the session, excitedly exchanged shopping tips with me (lol wokays out of point.)

conclusion? i love my singapore theatre tutorial class! (never imagined i would proclaim it but ah wells, heh.) looking forward to the next "bitching" session, definitely.
